Special Edition: THRIVE

Dear Friends and Partners,

The following special note is from a missionary serving in a country where it is unsafe to be a Christian.

Despite this, God is moving through the JESUS film and passionate Christ-followers there — redeeming, restoring, and renewing...helping people THRIVE in Him.

I pray you are blessed by these words today.

You are loved.

My wife and I consulted with the Lord about the best way to do this, and showing the JESUS film was the first thing that came to our minds.

One day, I met George* when he drove me to church in his taxi. I invited him in, but he refused, explaining that he did not believe in God. The Holy Spirit told me to persevere by continuing to work with this man.

I invited George to take me many places around the nation. On one of our numerous trips in the mountains, he asked me if I still had "that Jesus movie that you told me about once." I said I did, and even had it in his language!

He asked to watch it at that very moment.

At the end of the movie, tears came streaming down his face.

Praise God - George made a decision for Christ, and the fruit of his transformation is remarkable. He has led his wife, mother, and daughter to accept Christ.

You can sense the Holy Spirit through the JESUS film. The people here love the story of Jesus, and I know the film is going to make a huge impact in this country.

We are working to disciple people, home by home. Please pray for us as we use the film to establish the body of Christ in this nation.

From before sunrise to beyond sundown...

April 2019

“Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord,
knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain."

1 Corinthians 15:58 (ESV)

Dear Friends & Partners,

Did you know that showing the JESUS film involves much more than pushing play on a projector? Team members physically and spiritually prepare for evangelizing, discipling, and planting churches, from before sunrise to beyond sundown.

Last month, you walked with Fransisco as he journeyed to show the JESUS film in Guatemala. Today, a JESUS Film team member* in Havana, Cuba would love to share a day in her life with you:

5:00-6:00 A.M.
She dedicates her first hour to the Lord and does a devotion with her husband to exercise spiritually. She then goes walking with her husband to physically prepare for the day. She prays with her JESUS Film team at the same time every morning, no matter where they find themselves. This prayer discipline unifies them and brings peace to their hearts.

8:00 A.M.
She strategically chooses her destination based on communities most in need of the gospel. Teams in Mesoamerica get together every year and focus on places that do not yet have a church. She travels there with her team by rental car, horse-drawn taxi, public bus, or by walking to remote areas. It takes hours and in some cases, days, to reach these new communities. The motorbikes her team recently received allow them to go faster and farther with the gospel.

3:00 P.M.
The team rests for an hour and then evangelizes door-to-door. They supply gospel tracts, use the EvangeCube, and hand out invitations for the JESUS film showing, encouraging all villagers to come.

5:00 P.M.
The team sets up the projection equipment and prepares the film showing location at a church or in someone’s backyard. They cannot show the film publicly without a government permit. Music is a core aspect of Cuban culture and identity, so her team plays music to welcome people as they arrive.

The words you will hear are a prayer, shared with us by Fransisco. The faces you will see are the people of that area who Fransisco's team impacts each day.

7:00 P.M.
The team shows video testimonies of people whose lives Jesus has transformed. The JESUS film begins an hour later after prayer. Following the film, they open a discussion with the viewers by asking, “How many of you liked the film? Did you understand the message? Did you pray at the end with the narrator?” The team members invite people to pray with them, and write down each new believer's phone numbers and address to help them begin their discipleship journey.

Reflecting on showings, the team member said, “We give glory to God — most people make a profession of faith!” More than 86,400 people have made decisions for Christ through the JESUS Film teams’ work in Cuba!

9:00 P.M.
New believers are invited to start discipleship at the community’s new Preaching Point. The team uses the Bible Story Cloth and audio Bibles to engage people both visually and orally in God’s Word. The team stays in this area from one week to fifteen days, making sure to leave a leader in place for the Preaching Point who will continue discipling the new believers.

12:00 A.M.
The team member typically goes to bed by midnight. Her favorite part of the day is seeing people respond to the invitation and confess their faith. She rejoices and thinks of 1 Corinthians 15:58, “Because God is fulfilling His promise, and my labor for the Lord is not in vain.”

JESUS Film teams are as diverse as their country and culture. Because it takes years and significant paperwork for a church to be considered ‘official’ in Cuba, there are only around 100 official churches. Unofficially, there are more than 1,000 Preaching Points flourishing within the country. One thriving church meets in a home that was once used for witchcraft! Jesus is redeeming the most broken places as teams plant churches.

Rejoice in this and have a blessed Easter weekend!

You are loved.

It starts with a seed!

June 2019

“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness, and faithfulness."

Galatians 5:22 (NIV)

Dear Friends & Partners,

20-year-old Jacob* in Pakistan hated listening to his father drone on about following Christ and being kinder in his actions. Every time his father tried to share God's Word with him, Jacob ignored him.

Instead, Jacob relentlessly pursued women and worldly pleasures. For years, he wasted his time and money with people who encouraged this fruitless lifestyle.

One day, Peter*, a young JESUS Film team member, knocked on his door. Peter invited Jacob's family to watch a movie. Because they enjoyed his company, they happily accepted and arrived in a field where many people had gathered.

Jacob tried his best to hate the movie. Despite his bad mood, he grew increasingly impressed by Christ as he watched.

He had never known a human like Jesus. The crowd's cruelty struck Jacob as he watched Christ be crucified. Seeds of love and forgiveness began to sprout in his heart. His friends were shocked — tears were streaming down his face.

Jacob confessed his sins. He said, "I realized real happiness is found in Christ and gave my life to Him. I shared this great news with my family. They are so happy and I am growing spiritually each day. Thank you for bringing the church and JESUS film into my life.”

Jacob's story is powerful because we can see God's perfect plan, which always starts with a seed. Jacob's father planted the initial gospel seeds in his son's life. Jacob pursued the opposite of this and reaped nothing in return.

When Peter and the JESUS Film team showed up at Jacob's door, their godly lifestyle was a beacon to Jacob, tilling seeds planted earlier.

As Jacob watched the JESUS film, these gospel seeds were cultivated. Through discipleship and the local church, they are now growing into a beautiful garden.

"Giving is an act of generosity. Giving is sowing a seed. The seed will produce a great harvest of fruits," Lailah Gifty Akita, Ghanaian Author. As a Harvest Partner, your gifts make this great harvest possible.

You have contributed to Jacob's story, whether by praying, delivering equipment, or providing support to teams. Thank you for helping scatter gospel seeds around the world. God is working through JESUS Film teams and tools to plant, till, cultivate, and grow these seeds into remarkable fruit.

You are loved.

Our Prayers Do Make a Difference!

March 2019

“Our prayers may be awkward.
Our attempts may be feeble.

But since the power of prayer is in
One who hears it
And not in the one who says it,

Our prayers do make a difference.”

Max Lucado

Dear Friends & Partners,

"Father, thank you for another day."

These simple yet powerful words, spoken by a JESUS Film team member, give our mighty God all the glory. What a powerful thing to pray as we begin and end our days.

I am honored to share a special video with you, which shows a day in the life of Fransisco, this team member in Guatemala.

The words you will hear are a prayer, shared with us by Fransisco. The faces you will see are the people of that area who Fransisco's team impacts each day.

Take a look...

Each month, JESUS Film teams in 54 countries report back to the ministry with testimonies and prayer requests. Last year, JESUS Film teams sent in more than 7,000 reports chronicling their experiences.

They saw God heal, redeem, and restore. They stayed the course despite persecution and long journeys.

Will you join me and Fransisco in praying today: Father, thank you for another day.

You are loved.

The simply incredible gospel...

Pulse Banner

February 2019

"I"He was given authority, glory and sovereign power;

All nations and peoples of every language worshiped him.

His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away,

And his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed."

Daniel 7:14 (NIV)

Dear Friends & Partners,

We tend to overcomplicate the message of the gospel.

At its core, it is simple and can be shared...
y anyone,
In any language.

JESUS Film teams use simple yet powerful tools — allowing new and seasoned believers to share the amazing truth that Jesus died to save us from our sins. We can accept Him, grow in our faith, and spend eternity with Him!

Teams are diligently sharing the Good News to many tribes, tongues, and nations, from Brazil to India:

"We showed the film on the bank of the Amazon River to several local tribes. They watched the film from their boats. At the end of the movie, three young people accepted Jesus. Then, one of the tribal leaders asked us to accompany him to the village and show the film to his people. We glorify God for this opportunity to enter one more village in Jesus' name!" — Brazil JESUS Film team #2

"This month, our team worked among another tribe. It is very difficult to make contact with them. We developed a good relationship with one businessman: the town butcher named Jitan. He brought us to visit others and build more relationships. Jitan has been vital to the Lord's work. He is from a religion who worships many gods and goddesses, so he understands the locals' hearts and beliefs even better.

We showed the film after receiving permission. Afterward, we preached God's Word, and one of the village leaders made a decision for Christ! Under his leadership, we formed a Preaching Point and believe it will one day soon be a strong and healthy church." — India team #27

Praise God for boats, butchers, and the bold teams

who are growing the Kingdom!

When an orphan in South Asia is captivated by Christ's own story of solitude and discovers God the Father in the JESUS film, your prayers, love, and support are shining brighter than the projector's light.

When a prostitute in Africa finds freedom in Jesus in the context of discipleship, you have a part in making it possible.

When a couple in Central America with a broken marriage finds a loving and supportive community at their local Preaching Point, it's because God surrounded them with people like you to transform hearts and lives in incredible ways.

For all these things — and your role in them — we will eternally be grateful. May you and yours have a blessed Thanksgiving!

You are loved.
